King Charles Praises Oman's Role in Strait of Hormuz Diplomacy

(MENAFN) King Charles highlighted Oman's diplomatic efforts to maintain access to the Strait of Hormuz during a formal state banquet at Windsor Castle, where he welcomed Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said and addressed the visiting leader partly in Arabic.

The royal reception underscored the close relationship between the United Kingdom and Oman, a strategic partner in the Middle East whose territory borders the vital maritime passage. During his address, the King commended Oman's "noble efforts in trying to keep open one of the world's most important shipping routes".

Speaking during a dinner featuring pheasant and quince, Charles also recognized Muscat's attempts to mediate in the conflict involving Iran and encourage dialogue to identify "where common ground might be found".

The diplomatic gathering comes amid the ongoing war in Iran, which began after the United States and Israel carried out extensive strikes against the country in February. The attacks killed Iran's supreme leader and triggered a conflict that has continued since then. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global shipping and energy supplies, has remained effectively shut throughout the crisis.

Several senior members of the British royal family attended the event at Windsor Castle, including Queen Camilla, Prince William, Catherine and Princess Anne.

The banquet also marked the first such occasion for Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who sat beside Omani academic and novelist Jokha Alharthi.

The evening featured an elaborate dining arrangement, with ornate candelabras, carefully polished table decorations and five glasses at each place setting. Even the salt's surface carried an imprint of King Charles's royal cypher.

Seasonal produce from the castle grounds also featured in the decorations. A particularly productive summer had yielded an abundant pomegranate harvest, and the fruit was displayed alongside floral arrangements across the tables.

Addressing the 160 attendees in English and incorporating several Arabic quotations, Charles also welcomed the collaboration between his son, Prince William, and the Omani Sultan's son on an expedition project.
